A new policy was announced by Principal Chip Stutzman: students at Hermann high will now be given the chance to make up late work from unexcused absences by coming in on a Saturday to complete their work. This will be called Saturday school.
If a student has an unexcused absence, he or she can now sign up for Saturday School every other weekend. During this session, the student can make his or her work from unexcused absences and receive up to 80% credit. The program will run from 8am to 11am. Students have to show up on time and stay the whole time to receive credit. To participate in the program, students can sign up in the office by noon on the Wednesday before a scheduled Saturday School. Students will have four Saturday School opportunities in a quarter.
The former policy before the Saturday School opportunity was that students would receive a zero on any work they missed during an unexcused absence.
Saturday Schools are advised by teachers who sign up for coverage, and teachers receive compensation for Saturday school coverage.
