The unusually warm September sun shined down upon the Hermann Bearcats as they ran out on the field. The crowd of fans and supporters were on their feet and cheering as the team ran across the field to start their huddle. The white and blue of their jerseys stood out on the bright green turf as they formed their circle, stretching out for the game ahead of them. It was Senior Night, Hermann’s Homecoming, and possibly the last time that the senior football players would play a game on their home turf.
¨I kept thinking about how this is my last home game at Hermann,” Tanner Unger (12) said. ¨Also, I was thinking about how fast senior year has gone by, and how little time we have left.¨
Homecoming week consisted of the traditional spirit days: ‘Merica Monday, Tourist Tuesday, Wild West Wednesday, Fake an Injury Thursday, and Crazy Blue and White Friday, as well as the Homecoming parade.
Besides the traditional events that took place on Homecoming, there was a new twist installed regarding the Homecoming Court.
¨Being on the court this year was different than other years. We used to have boys be the other attendants,” said Sabryn Englert (12), homecoming queen candidate. ¨This year, we had our dads walk us down. I thought it was a sweet gesture that I got to share it with my dad.”
¨It was pretty special [to have that experience with my dad],¨ Megan Schneider (10) added.
The evening ended as the Hermann Bearcats ran off the field, falling to the St. Clair Bulldogs 6-52.
