Cinderella: The Fall Musical

January 10, 2018

The auditorium was dark as the actresses and actors of Cinderella awaited the oncoming scene of Thursday night’s production on Nov. 16. While the production lights were down and stage crew were moving props, Ginny Borgerding (10), one of the backstage crew members, found herself on stage as the lights came back on, prop in hand. Like a professional, Borgerding exited quickly for the show to proceed.

There are many aspects of a play, outside of performing, which allow the production to run smoothly. The hair and makeup crew are busy before, during, and after the show, with only four people managing seven actors’ appearances throughout the production.

The Backstage Crew moves props on and off stage and as well as build the set. They cooperate with the Lights and Sound Crew to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“It is stressful being the backstage manager because if something goes wrong, it’s on me for not telling people how to do something. The calming part is that it is not as stressful as what the actors have to do,” said Cody Bruckerhoff (12), Drama Club Secretary and Backstage Manager for Cinderella.

In addition to the behind the scenes work, the Costume Crew made and designed the Fairy Godmother’s dress for Cinderella.

Cinderella was the first production directed by Mrs. Behrens, the new drama teacher.

“I was mostly concerned with making sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible and that everyone enjoyed what they were doing,” said Mrs. Behrens.

The production took place over the evenings of Nov. 16-18.
