These were life changing words to Tessa Eldringhoff (12). In July 2017, Tessa and seven other girls from the surrounding area competed for the title of Gasconade County Fair Queen; Hermann’s very own won the title, a basket of prizes, and a scholarship.
“I was really surprised [when I heard my name called], because I already got Miss Congeniality so I was excited I was on the court and I was also filled with a lot of joy because I put a lot of work into it,” Eldringhoff said.
In the competition, there were several categories which contributed to a total score: the contestant’s talent, an interview, a gown, and a question portion.
“We had to do a talent, which mine was a speech, and then we had an interview, and a gown and question portion.” Eldringhoff informed. Tessa gave an inspirational speech which she incorporated her own life experiences to motivate others to be the best versions of themselves.
And while the week was full of fun activities, the queen and her court had a lot to do during the week of the fair.
“Throughout the week, we were super busy. We had to do basically any task. We had to hand out awards at all the shows. We had to give water to buyers [at the livestock auction] and honestly do anything we could to help out at the fair.”
To any girls considering competing, the Gasconade County Fair website has the application and more information. Eldringhoff also had some words of advice.
“I would say that it is a lot of work to put in, but it is worth it in the end. It helped me gain so many new friends and it was an overall great experience even if you don’t win.”
