“It was one of the best experiences of my life.” That was how senior, Justin Grosse, described the 2016 golf season when, for the first time in Hermann High School history, the Hermann Golf team went to state.
Team members included Ross Henson (12), Thomas Henson (10), Andrew Budnick (12), Matthew Heiger (12), Justin Grosse (12), and Kyle Walker (Alumnus). Jeremy Hosick and the staff at the Loutre Shore Country Club coached the Bearcats.
The team received first place at the Hermann, Warrenton, and St. Claire tournaments along with a third place finish at Sullivan. Finishing out the regular season, the Bearcats received second place in the conference tournament, leading them to advance to districts. The boys won first place and then moved on to sectionals. After advancing to the state tournament, the pressure was on. Their hard work and dedication paid off when they won third place in the State Championship.
“We’re going to practice every day and take it tournament by tournament,” Heiger (12) said of this year’s upcoming golf season. “We’re going to try and win every tournament and then do the same with conference, districts, sectionals and then win first at state.”
